What to do before applying decorative concrete overlays
- Repair cracks in the concrete. Make sure that the base concrete surface is structurally sound and is not heavily damaged. If not, strengthen and treat the surface first for the overlay to last.
- Remove possible bond breakers. Paint stains, grease and other such substances might inhibit the overlay from fully bonding with the surface.
- Check for moisture. Perform a vapour transmission test to determine the amount of vapour forced out of the concrete. Too much moisture can negatively affect the overlay application process.
