Preparing concrete for resurfacing
Concrete resurfacing involves covering the existing concrete surface with an overlay that will then adhere to the surface. For the overlay to do so successfully, the base surface should first be prepared properly.
- Clean the concrete: remove all substances that might prevent the overlay from bonding with the base. This includes debris such as dirt, grease, paint, oil and any coatings.
- Remove unsound concrete: minor spalling and delaminations must be cleared away.
- Fill active cracks: cracks might be mirrored through to the overlay if not filled.
